GREETINGS FROM THE GARDEN

We’re thrilled to have kicked off the year by serving as a site for the amazing Morro Bay Bird Festival and by hosting our very first Stargazing Night with the Central Coast Astronomical Society. A special thank-you to CCAS President Aurora Lipper for a wonderful presentation, and to the CCAS members who generously brought and set up telescopes so everyone could enjoy the night sky!  Stargazing returns on February 27 (and again on March 28). February is currently sold out, but add your name to the waitlist so we can let you know if we release more tickets!

We’re also happy to share that Members’ Happy Hour returns in February with The Artistry of Orchids, featuring Ed Lysek—a rescheduled favorite from last year.  Please note that starting in April, we’ll be moving Happy Hours to Thursday nights, as Parks will now charge a $5 entry fee on Fridays. For more information about the fee changes, please see the announcement at the end of this email. We will still provide passes to volunteers – so stay tuned for more information!

Behind the scenes (and the buildings), we have some great Cal Poly students hard at work on senior projects. Later this spring, their efforts will result in a new carport for our golf cart, expanded storage at propagation large enough for the tractor, an outdoor nursery classroom, and a new kinetic sculpture in the Children’s Garden.

Our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event will take place later this year. In the meantime, heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shown up to take down Nature Lights, organize sheds, plant and map garden areas, cover gift shop shifts, tend the nursery and greenhouse, restore the veggie house, and handle the many other tasks that keep the Garden thriving. When visitors leave impressed, it’s in no small part because of you.

Not already a volunteer? Consider signing up to help out. Whether you can do a weekly shift in the Gift Shop or with one of our garden crews, or you want to come out once or twice to help with something specific, we can always use more hands!

I hope you’ll take advantage of the beautiful weather and make plans to visit the Garden soon
