GREETINGS FROM THE GARDEN
January is only halfway through, and it already feels like spring at the Garden with temperatures hovering in the mid-70s every day. Plants are blooming at the sundial, and we are starting to see real growth in the Chumash Garden and (soon) around our newly paved parking lot.
With the help of volunteers, interns, and lots of Cal Poly students working on Senior Projects, we’ve got quite a few garden improvements planned for the first part of 2026. From an outdoor classroom in the Nursery and new kinetic sculpture in the Children’s Garden to some less glamorous projects to upgrade maintenance facilities and fencing – we are excited about what is to come.
We’ve also started some great new partnerships in 2026. We are excited to be working with the Central Coast Astronomical Society (CCAS) to host some stargazing nights at the Garden. Our first event (January 24) is already sold out, but we’ve got two more planned in February and March. Register soon to ensure your spot.
We are also working with the team at Marcerro, the new restaurant at the Dairy Creek Golf Course. They have completed renovations and already have a few cocktails on their menu featuring herbs grown at the Garden. They will be taking over part of our recently cleared Veggie House to support some “Garden to table” menu items, and we hope to have them join us for a Spring Happy Hour to share some bites and give some cooking tips.
I hope you’ll take advantage of the beautiful weather and make plans to visit the Garden!
